Creating a Sticky Homepage in WordPress

The process is relatively simple and is very effective when you want new visitors to your site to read an introduction to your site, but have more instant news updates appear as well.

First, navigate to Posts > Add New and write the content you’d like to always be present on your homepage.

Under Publish > Visibility (top right side) click Edit. Next, click the check box to “”Stick this post to the front page”". Publish your document, then navigate to Settings > Reading.

The default setting for WordPress front page displays is “”your latest posts”" and this what you’ll need to be set to for your latest post content to appear on the homepage. Now that you’ve made a “”sticky homepage”" that particular post will always be at the top.

Further customizations can be made under Reading Settings, such as the number of blog posts to show on the home page and whether to include the full text or a summary. In the case of our Site Sparker website, our blog posts are very short so we’ve chosen to post the full text. But if your blog entries are very long, then you should choose the Summary setting so that only a portion of your blog appears on the homepage. That will ensure visitors can scroll very quickly through all of your posts to find what they’re looking for.

If this is at all confusing, you can find a video version of this tutorial at the link below, where it’s explained visually, inside the WP interface.

All about blogging

Blogging can bring in a lot of money in your pockets. But many people don’t succeed in this, since they are impatient. You should be having the patience in you – to wait and see the results. Money may not be coming the very first month of your blogging. Depending on your skills, it will take some time. First of all, you should make a plan of what you are going to achieve. Your target should be something achievable. Its good to dream big, but don’t target big – start targeting things that you would be easily achieving.

You can start with one blog, and then go on increasing the count when you get used to it. Your first blog should be easy for you to update many times a day. And for updating a blog many times a day, you should be an expert in that field. Think a bit – you will be surely an expert in something. Some people blog – even about blogging. That’s because they are experts in blogging. Just like that, there will be some topic about which you would be easily making a lot of posts each day.

As mentioned above it’s important to select a niche about which you would be able to publish many posts per day. After you find such a niche, create a blog about it and start blogging. If you don’t have any funds with you to register and host a domain name, then you can go with a free sub domain under wordpress or blogspot. After a month, you should be with at least 50 posts. But this is not at all mandatory. It’s up to you, to decide the number of posts. But if you are gonna start it the best way, then go for – 50 articles per month. The more, the better. By this time, your site will be indexed in Google. You can promote the site using your own tricks and methods. And once, you have posts in your blog, you can start bringing traffic to it. I hope you know how to do that.

Once you get traffic in your first blog, you can slowly go on increasing the number of blogs that you update daily. The new blogs that you create will also be getting traffic, if you put a link to those blogs from your first blog. And if you are thinking of making some money out of these blogs, then you can start selling ad space, banners and links on your blog. A blog with traffic can make a lot of money. So, that’s it about blogging, if you are serious about making money online through blogging, then go for it.

Create Your WordPress Website – Part I

There are several things you must have in mind when creating a WordPress website. As you probably already know, WordPress is currently one of web’s strongest web development platforms, and that is due to the fact that SEO has always been on its developers minds.

SEO (search engine optimization) is what allows your website to be well ranked (or not that well..) on the web. A well structured website is a must, if you want to reach the main share of your potential visitors – the ones finding you throw the search engines. How does it work? Basically, google, yahoo, etc, have what professionals call “”the crawlers”", which are bots that run through your website and try to “”understand it”". The way these bots read your blog is 100% dependent on the way you build it – and this is where the word “”keyword”" gets into this article. If your main keywords are showing up on the website’s main spots, crawlers will get the idea and improve your ranking for those keywords – on the titles, on the links, hidden behind an image, etc, any opportunity to enlighten your main keywords will be precious.

WordPress started as a blog platform, but is today used as a bit of everything. It can certainly work as a powerful and excellent CMS, for you to even manage a business out of it. To make it look the way you want, you’ll always need some coding skills, however the use of WordPress plugins can be extremely useful – you’ll find all sorts of tools, and most importantly, they are all totally free (have a quick look at wp’s plugin directory).

On this 1st post, I will be making you a few suggestions that will hopefully help you start your WordPress experience with the right foot. It will be a mixture of best practices and WordPress plugins that you should download and implement on your new toy. So here you go:

- Page titles: homepage, article and archive titles should be careful managed. They will be the 1st element to be analyzed by the search engines. Have in mind that the first words are the most important ones, and they should include the keywords of current page’s content;

- Breadcrumbs: if you’re not familiar with it, breadcrumbs is a technique used in web navigation, so that users can keep track of where exactly they are on a given website. If your template doesn’t have it, find a plugin that you can use;

- SEO Friendly Images plugin: this plugin will automatically edit the “”alt”" tag of your images (the equivalent to a text title to the crawlers) to the title of the article where they are located;

- Google XML Sitemaps plugin: an important tool that will create and update the XML of your website. The XML file will work same way as a feed, but to the search engines. Explore Google Webmaster Tools and let Google know about your sitemap;

- WordPress Database Backup plugin: this one, together with some other plugins, are essential security plugins to adopt. Most of them can work automatically, upon proper set-up;

- cforms plugin: this amazing tool, developed in ajax, will allow you to create top-notch forms to your website – from the simple “”contact form”", to a survey or submit form.

I do hope that you can take advantage of some of these suggestions, and get on the right trail with this terrific web platform. In the meantime, I can only suggest loads of reading and researching!

COMPLETE course here: internetbusiness-howto.com WordPress SEO For Content As you know, the search engines have their own proprietary algorithms for how they calculate value. Among them are these key guidelines that you need to follow when creating content on your site. Page Title Page “Slug” Header Tags Keyword Density Keyword In Last 50-100 Words Image With Keyword Image With ALT Tag Internal Link With Keyword External Link With Keyword 300+ Word Document Page Title & Page Slug Ensure that your page title contains the keyword that you are targeting. The “page slug” is what is seen by the search engines. www.example.com/page-slug Essentially, when you create your site using the WordPress permalink structure of “/%postname%/, each of your pages will automatically be created with the keyword slug based on your title. Header Tags Header tags are the tags in your wordpress content. When you are writing content, ensure that your keyword appears in each of these tags. These tags will also help your reader by breaking content into readable and logical chunks that can easily be read on a screen. Word Count, Keyword Density & Keyword Count A “good” page has enough words for a good read/skim. A document that is at least 300 words is good enough to have logical header tags, a nice keyword density and a small image. Ensure that your keywords are scattered throughout your document to achieve a 2% to 5% keyword density. There are free keyword density analyzers around but I have found …

Comprehensive Corporate WordPress Theme Review – A StudioPress Theme

I’m a huge fan of using WordPress to create almost any type of website. One WordPress theme developer I’m particular fond of is StudioPress – the maker of the Corporate WordPress theme (plus many more themes).

If you need an out-of-the box website solution for your corporate website, the Corporate WordPress theme could very well be for you. Read this Corporate WordPress theme review to find out why.

Corporate Theme Overview

The Corporate WordPress theme caters to small business websites with a highly customizable home page.
You can create a 3 column blog page layout.In fact, you can choose from 6 layouts for any page or post.
Auto-size thumbnail management which automatically re-sizes images so the images can be thumbnail size at the top of your blog posts. Images are a real asset in polishing the look and style of a blog post.
Threaded comment capability included; no additional set up required.
You’re given the Photoshop files so you can work off them for enhanced modification to suit your needs.
Lifetime access to the forum about this Theme. StudioPress’ forum has over 12,000 members (and growing rapidly) and is very well moderated by approved StudioPress developers.
With the Corporate WP theme, you gain full access to all future updates with a single purchase.

Additional Corporate Theme Features

Widget Ready

In fact, if you get the Corporate WP Theme on the Genesis Framework, you’ll be delighted with the widget options. The entire home page can be constructed with widgets – not just the sidebars.

SEO Ready

The Genesis Framework (on which the Corporate Theme operates) comes with a built-in SEO configuration panel which pretty much enables you to completely configure your SEO for your entire website – from your home page to each post and page.

Moreover, in each “”add post”" and “”add page”" panel, you can insert a meta title, meta description, meta keywords, and indicate whether the page or post is NoFollow, NoIndex, and/or NoArchive.

In a nutshell, the power of optimizing your website for the search engines is completely built in the Corporate Theme Genesis platform. No more relying on third party plugins or any other mechanism to optimize your website.

I’ve used many SEO-ready WordPress themes and I can say from experience that I consider the Genesis SEO panel one of the easiest to use. There are decent descriptions explaining the options for beginners in optimizing websites.

Forum Offers a Wealth of Information

Because StudioPress sells a lot of themes, there are many participants in the forum. In fact, when you get the Corporate WordPress theme, you gain access to a forum dedicated to the Corporate theme. This is very convenient because it makes it very easy to search for directed answers to your questions.

StudioPress also engages senior moderators to provide answers to unanswered questions. Now, I want to stress that not every question will be answered. If it’s a design question, you may be politely asked to consult a coder or designer privately. The StudioPress forum expressly states they restrict assistance to bugs and only some design / layout questions.

Make money blogging

If you are thinking of making money by blogging, then you should be with a lot of blogs. With just one or two blogs, you won’t be getting anywhere near to even $ 100 per month. But before you think about making money this way, you should be having experience running at least a single blog in the past. If you are already having a blog of your own, then it’s okay. Otherwise start with one blog, and keep blogging for at least a month, before you follow what we are gonna mention here.

It’s better to start with 20 blogs. These 20 blogs should be about different niches. Articles should be posted in these blogs on a daily basis. If you are good at blogging, then it’s better to post an article in each of the 20 blogs on your own. This way, after a month you’ll be with 30 posts in each of the 20 blogs. And if these blogs are with decent traffic, then you would be able to sell links in them. On an average you’ll be getting at least $ 10 per month from a blog. So, from 20 blogs you’ll be getting $200. If you sell, like 10 links in each of the blogs, then you’ll be getting like $50 from a blog. And if that’s the case, your monthly earnings from the 20 blogs will be around $ 1000.

One thing to remember before creating blogs is that – the domain names should be good ones. It can help you in getting higher page ranks for your blogs. A high PR blog will help you earn more money online, per month, than a lower one. You should also do a lot of promotions to your blogs. Getting backlinks can do miracles to your blogs. So, go for it, if you think you’ll be able to do it on your own. Otherwise hire someone to do it for you.

And if you are putting adsense, in the blogs, then your earnings will be even more than what we have mentioned above. After you continue with such a plan for about 3-4 months, you’ll be with the money to hire workers to do all these things. From then on things will be pretty automated – and you can concentrate just on earning more and more money out of the blogs – without doing all those time consuming works.

Church Websites – Using WordPress to Get Visitors at Your Church

Most church websites are lame. Why? While 65% of Churches now have a site, most of these drive little to no visitors to their churches. This is a missed opportunity, since the vast majority of people under 35 go to the internet not the Yellow Pages FIRST when looking for a church. So what good is having a church website if only the pastor and the board surfs to it? I think you no the answer to that one.

The major problem is that most church websites are not search engine friendly. And if you’re is not listed high in places like Google and Yahoo, you will get no traffic. And no traffic means no guests checking out your place of worship on Sunday.

The solution to the “”church website blues”" is to get your website search engine optimized (SEO) so that seekers can actually find your church web site when do a search for a place of worship in your area. How do you do this? The answer is simple. Use a blog like WordPress to run your church website. Based on our own own personal experiences as a Christian webmaster and church planter, I have had several blogging websites (including this one) using blogging tools like WordPress that have had tremendous success attracting and keeping guests. Isn’t that what a church website should be all about? Below we list several great reasons (I could have listed more) why a church should use a blog format for its church website .

WordPress comes free with many inexpensive affordable web hosting packages. So why spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on church website designs when you have at your fingertip a blogging platform like this? Most all of the cheap web hosting providers (average cost between $4 and $8 dollars per month) give you access to WordPress through Fantastico in their control panels. Please think twice before signing a web hosting contract with a Christian web hosting company.

Not a techie? No problem because WordPress is a one click installation with Fantastico. No HTML or PHP knowledge needed. Writing content and putting in images is just like using your old fashioned word processor. If you need help with your blogging church website, there are tons of WordPress tutorials and an amazing support forum as well.

The really cool thing about WP is that it functions as a content management system (CMS), which simply means that you can give it the appearance of a regular Church website, while reaping all the benefits a blog (see below) brings to the table. WordPress has hundreds and hundreds of free templates (they call them themes) to choose from for making your church website have the exact look and feel you want.

Another reason to use WP is that it makes your site Search Engine Optimized Out of the Box. That’ means way better search engine rankings…which means…you got it more visitors coming to your church website…which means more guests at your services. You don’t need to know ANYTHING about how search engines work because WordPress “”pings”" the search engines automatically for you, letting them know you have new content and RSS feeds for them to index. Furthermore, instead of waiting weeks and even months for the search engines spiders from Yahoo and Google to index your static church website pages, your blog will get indexed in a matter of a few days.

Most church websites out there just ooze old…and irrelevant. Blogs are the here and now, and using one as a church website will convey newness, hipness and relevancy to the young families, the Gen X and Gen Y types you should be targeting if you want to reach people for Jesus AND see your church to grow. OK, I promised I wouldn’t preach.

WordPress plugins like PodPress make it a snap to put all kinds of multi-media on your church website without any added costs and very little knowledge needed. Imagine having all your messages neatly indexed, categorized and online for all to enjoy. I actually have a few podcasts right here on my site. Believe me, it’s not rocket science. If I can do it…a monkey can as well Using multimedia like a podcasts you will geometrically grow your ministry reach. On my other Christian outreach site (see our about page) that’s less than 2 years old, I already reach 90,000 people a month. Are we excited yet?

How to Get the Blogging Your Church Website? Actually all you need to do is shop around for and affordable and reliable web hosting company that has blogging tools like WordPress.Good luck.
