The point of a re-inspection is not to nitpick flaws but discover unsafe vehicles or the fraud that sometimes happens in the collision repair industry. This customer signed for the insurance companies concierge service to handle his claim. He signed a 3 page contract that waived all of his rights by law. He was given paperwork from the insurance company stating that a new uniside assembly and new quarter panel were replaced as well as 2 used doors. The vehicle had no structural integrity – fraud

    good work exposing these frauds.

a nightmare since them BOR (bondo over rust) repairs and slide hammers (with sheetmetal screws and paneling as if it was fired with OO buck)…

if that car were to get wrecked again and the person in the back gets hurt or dies and they find out there was plastic where metal should be..that insurance company and auto body shop are looking at big lawsuits

  5. AutoBodyEthics September 8, 2010 at 11:14 am #

@MrMikey12363 The body shop is responsible – by law, insurance companies have nothing to do with the repair process and the body shop is solely responsible. The insurance companies will help the consumer sue the body shop and drive them out of business. It happens.

@AutoBodyEthics but didn’t the insurance company commit fraud? the insurance company made the deal with the body shop they knew what was going to be done to the car. its like me hiring someone for murder and getting away with it…well it wasn’t me who killed the person!

    @MrMikey12363
There are contradictory statments going on here. “Insurance fraud” is when a body shop get’s paid to replace a part and in turn repairs it! That has nothing to do with a DRP program. In fact, that shop should be removed from that program immediately. Without seeing what way the car was hit, no one can say the repairs aren’t safe! I am not from the area in question, but am a collision repair professional. Direct repair programs in no way shape of form dictate unsafe repairs!

@mizzlena247See thats the thing, The body shop wasn’t paid to replace the part according to the reporter “plaster was used by a auto shop with a direct deal from an insurance company instead of replacing structural panels” Am i misunderstanding that? Maybe there’s no “insurance fraud” here but there is fraud committed by the insurance company, it even says in the description.

All of this is stupid! it is not a fender or a hood that could be replaced, any body shop would do what was done, if you cut the quoter of the car out and weld in a new one it will never be as strong. the safety of the car is all about how strong is the frame, not the plastic, plus its not plastic they used, it’s bondo body filler.

@wadsdadsa i paint cars for living and your are right about the quarter panel replacement especially the civic shown in the video..if the tech put a new quarter panel on that car, i guarantee that the tech will bondo where he welded the pilar. Also, it’s not always the body shop fault about the repair, it’s actually the insurance that doesnt want to pay the right amount of repair time especially for OEM parts, instead they prefer aftermarket China parts..

  11. EvolutionIXRR January 7, 2011 at 5:51 am #

@MrMikey12363 Insurance gives almost all the work to auto body shop and they usually control the repair time and parts that needs to be put on the vehicle. To save money and trick the customers, they usually offer the shop for aftermarket china parts instead of OEM. The shop prefer the OEM parts cuz it’s easier to install but the insurance dont. So they go with aftermarket parts instead or OEM cuz it is way cheaper..After the repair, customer will never know about this secret.

is it the case that the bodyshops motive is to win insurance company work by being cheaper? If so, its market forces that are driving down prices and ultimately standards. Certainly, if the bodyshop charges specifically for work or parts not done then that is fraud and they should be struck -off as preferred contractors. Maybe an independent body needs to be created to police work done to safeguard against this problem….

From the looks of the video it was just a little damage in the quarter panel. Structural panels is whats under the quarter panel. It wasn’t damaged. One thing for sure that people have to realize 2 layers of sheetmetal will not keep you safe. I have yet to see side collision testing from any auto manufacturer.

@sjp784 Google”bad faith”?Read books like “From Good hands to boxing gloves”Deny,Delay,Defend”.I would never trust a Insurance Company Facility!Only they are who benefit. Ins. Repair Shops are forced to do what they are told,or else! They are Wolfs in Sheeps clothing.Deep discounts an deals are made with them, not for you.Bigger doesnt mean better.Any repair has flaws.I use someone who is referred by family or friend in any kind of work. Any good shop will warranty their work.

All auto body and repair shops are BAD, DISHONEST, AND CAN’T DO A JOB RIGHT. I am dealing with an accident repair to my Mercedes, and I am in the mood to vent. I have enough experience also with previous work, both mechanical and body, on cars over my life (now 51.) I am FED UP with ALL car repair businesses and the MONKEYS and FRAUDSTERS who work in them. YOU ALL SUCK. NEVER EVER is a job right. And it is ALWAYS OVERCHARGED. GO TO HELL ALL OF YOU.

  16. cmpilot May 9, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

By the way, auto repair moneys and fraudsters: I am of the .01% of the public who: 1) can eye panel gaps, 2) has an education in mechanical engineering, 3) has worked on cars, 4) has excellent eyes and the ability to spot details. I AM more intelligent then virtually ALL of you in your business, and my vision and understanding of good work is SUPERIOR to yours. YOUR WORK IS NEVER GOOD. AND I PAY FOR IT. YOU CAN NEVER RETURN A CAR TO ORIGINAL CONDITION, because you are too stupid.

  17. cmpilot May 9, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

Advice to anyone dealing with auto repair people: TREAT THEM LIKE SCUM. They do NOT deserve your respect. THEY WILL SCREW YOU, and they will try to pass off SHIT WORK on you. They do NOT respect you. You are a “mark.” They give the least amount of effort for the maximum labor $ and part$ charges. They would not recognize correct work if they saw it. The only correct work on a car is done at the factory by some car makers. Once you damage a car, it is damaged forever.

  18. cmpilot May 9, 2011 at 12:56 pm #

If any auto repair monkeys and criminals are thinking of replying to me: FUCK YOU IN ADVANCE. Any personal messages will be deleted without reading. CASE CLOSED on you and your business.

  19. Dtdilo5 May 11, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

@cmpilot Sorry to hear about your feeling and your rage.I would like to inform you that Autobody/Collision repair industry has one of the lowest labor rates,at $48.00 per hr that is supressed by the insurance industry.Your personnel Mechanic’s labor rate is in the range from $70.00-$100.00 per labor hour.

  20. Dtdilo5 May 11, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

@cmpilot If you take your MBenz to any dealership for any repairs is most likely over $100.00 per hr.As you stated that you are a smart consumer,so you understand the overhead expenses a repairer has to endure. Then, they have the right to make the ugly word known as “profit”.Your vehicle is the best money making, standard of living tool you have.It gets you to work, school, the store, the doctor, etc,so you have to spend money to make money, what is your profession?

  21. cmpilot May 11, 2011 at 9:56 pm #

@Dtdilo5 I quietly endure the high hourly charges (which are not, by the way, passed on the the skilled mechanics who actually do the work, oh no, they go the the fucking khazar who owns the place.) Now I can honestly say it doesn’t matter what you pay, the job is never done right. My profession is none of your business (I own my own, by the way) and I don’t need to be lectured on the value of the automobile. I am, in fact, car crazy. I love cars, and I view mine as more than appliances.

  22. Dtdilo5 May 12, 2011 at 1:03 pm #

@cmpilot Thats great your a car guy! So you know the stressful obstacles you have to go threw to bring your vehicle back to life without having any or a few flaws, whether it be mechanical or autobody to get your vehicle back on the road in short time.I,m glad to hear you are self employed, than you do know the difficulties you have to deal with when finding, quality oriented staff. The Automotive industry is under paid,un-appreciated.Did you ever work on vehicle’s for profession or just for fun?

  23. Dtdilo5 May 12, 2011 at 1:45 pm #

@cmpilot Also many of our techs get paid very well, depending on the techs ability. Consumers gladley pay lawyer, doctors, carpenters, electricians, even vacations an never get the full value but in our profession we are criticed more,by providing a under paid value by getting your tool/investment to have those other luxeries items. Plus take into consideration the many freebees/extras that dont get charged to the customer that is always done in many repairs.Ask a lawyer to do something for free! ha!

  24. cbr6864 June 23, 2011 at 10:21 pm #

yet another reason i never take any om my vehicles to mechanics

  25. ThePupstain June 29, 2011 at 10:42 am #

It would appear that the repair was pretty much cosmetic going by the thin coat of filler the tech was grinding off. unsafe? I think not. Eliminating dishonest shops would be a big plus-they give the rest of us a bad name
